To Recognise Pitches - How I did it

If you press a key on a piano it makes a note, you can recognise these notes and pitches just by listening. I learned how to do it by accident really, but its pretty cool to be able to hear a D and say it's a D.

I think learning and recognising these notes are more to do with memory more than anything, I actually learned to recognise each pitch before I even knew the names of the keys lol. But knowing the names of the keys makes it much easier. Well I'll tell you how I did it, might not work for you, I couldn't really do much at the time so I guess I was just giving myself a little game.

Lets just say you know how to play a bit of Fur Elise, the piece begins with an E. Press that E and listen to it, try to remember it.
Now put your finger on a couple of keys below or above. Close your eyes and press each key going towards that note. Once you think you have hit that note, open your eyes and see if you're right.
Try with any song you know how to play, because knowing a piece and its first note helps you remember. E.g 'Thats an E, Fur Elise begins with that'
It just kinda helps stick it in your head.


Well, thats a little game I done now and again when I was messing around, didn't intend to recognise notes but I did. I was like 16 so I don't think it matters how old you are. Might not work but it seems to be how I recognise pitches. Hope this helps.

That's sort of how Andrew taught on one of his videos to memorize our intervals. It's the best way actually.

I don't know if that's the fastest way to learn absolute pitch but I'm learning mental play (or mind play as Andrew calls it) and absolute pitch is a by-product of it. Hopefully it will work.

Might not be the fastest way or the best way, but I'm just saying what I done. Mind play, yeah know what you're saying Andrew's vieos, it seems to be a memory thing either way. Just gotta make sure when in your head, if you press a D, you hear a D mentally.
