Hello. For me, sight-reading is very difficult...I know about rhythm and I can feel it, but when I have to combine that with reading the notes and playing at the same time, it becomes a disaster. It's really hard for me to play without stopping to read what the next note is. I do know the notes in the treble and bass clef, but it's just that it takes me a somewhat long time to discern where each note is placed. So, what do I do beyond practicing constantly on sight reading? One way I've tried is doing a piece I haven't heard before, but that doesn't help much either.

I'm a very beginner at the piano & music overall so I didn't know any notes etc when I started playing (1 month ago), but how I learn to play my pieces is uhm. I have this: http://www.music-mind.com/Music/Srm0012.GIF printed out next to my sheet.
When I'm going to learn a new song I take my pencil & my music sheet and I start writing all the key names above the notes on the score. This way I practice my note reading (& I have that picture as backup if I have doubt)
And when I want to play the piece on the piano I can find my keys really fast when I see the names (instead of just notes on the score)
I hope by using this method I can eventually sight-read. I don't know if it's a good method in the long term, but for now, for me, I can start playing songs really fast and occasionaly practice my note reading without it feeling I'm really studying.
